Rapid

A collaborative space for the RAPID project

I am working with a group of young women from GFS Platform to design this elephant. The group have been working with the theme memories, interviewing communities and discussing its importance. The young women, have never worked on a large scale project, and are using felt making and patchwork to decorate their Elephant. The young women thought that the elephant was a perfect platform for sharing the happy memories they would never forget. I'll keep you update to date with it's progress.

So, Eli Elephant is complete and gone. Phew!
She spent a week at the Great Yarmouth Borough Council Town Hall before a week in the window of our local Radio Station. Everybody seems to love her baggy pants and sparkly ears.

The young women worked really hard to complete her in time, as we had a few hiccups along the way (venue – yes, I did say Elephant! Changes to design and material colours, allergies to wool and soap making felt making impossible)
Three young women volunteered way beyond their session time and it was really down to these three that Eli got finished. Also Kate Munrow who patiently blanket stitched her backside!

Eli will have a new home at the Playhouse in Norwich from June and we can’t wait to go and see her. So, please support her by visiting her at the Playhouse over the summer…

Hi Corrina,

Do keep us up to date with this - I've got a personal interest in that the NR5 Project are also involved. You'll find their images on Flickrr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/beinspired-live/show/
